There’s plenty of research that shows how marijuana helps cancer patients.
And it’s something about which The REEF in Detroit feels passionate.
That’s why they made the decision to donate $15,000 to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s 29th Annual Man & Woman of the Year Event at Ford Field on May 4th.
But beyond this platinum sponsorship, they wanted to also give their patients an opportunity to give.
So since March 7th, each time a patient made a purchase, he or she was given the option to minimally round up their purchase to the nearest dollar in order to make a donation.
And The REEF will continue this campaign right through May 4th.
The REEF Is All about Giving Back
Long before money-hungry politicians started taking a sudden interest in the cannabis industry, the REEF Provisioning Center faced the many challenges of opening a dispensary so they could focused on helping folks.
Because they believe that should be a top priority.
Located at 6640 East 8 Mile Road in Detroit, they’ve emphasized the importance of giving back to the community. That means both the physical neighborhood they call home, as well as the community at large.
And they have a rich history of supporting charities such as the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
“We are committed to giving back to the community and trying to help in our own small way to cure these dreaded diseases,” says General Manager, Rush Hasan.
The Work of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society strives to improve the quality of life for patients and their families who live with the challenges of Leukemia, Lymphoma, Hodgkin’s Disease and Myeloma. They hope some day to find cures for these diseases.
The Man & Woman of the Year event through LLS is a fundraising “competition” that takes place throughout the United States. Local fundraisers try to raise the most money become the Man or Woman of the Year, and the funds raised are used for research to advance targeted therapies and immunotherapies that currently save thousands of lives.
For the past nine weeks, Man & Woman of the Year candidates have dedicated themselves to raising as much money as possible to find cures for blood cancers, while ensuring that patients have access to lifesaving treatments.
The culmination of their efforts will be announced on May 4th, as the candidates join sponsors and survivors for an evening of dinner, dancing and entertainment at Ford Field. The man and woman who raised the most funds during the campaign will be awarded the prestigious title of Man or Woman of the Year.
But obviously, the biggest winners are the nearly 1.5 million people living with or in remission from blood cancers who stand to benefit from this event.
Do You Want to Help?
The REEF is hoping to raise an additional $25,000 on top of their initial $15,000 donation.
If you want to be a part of this effort, it’s not too late. Head over to The REEF in Detroit and help those struggling with blood cancers. Every little bit matters.
